Choice and Objectives
When it comes to choice, consider the objectives. This past weekend, here in South Africa, the comrades marathon took place. This road running race covers a distance of around 90 kilometers, with thousands of competitors, many of whom are not natural athletes.
To complete and finish one or more of these events is a great personal achievement, but, and not to minimise that achievement, not ideal for those looking for a longer, better quality of life. Current research says that this type of event, and the training it requires, is not a good thing when it comes to health, longevity and quality in older years. Which poses the question, what are our objectives when making lifestyle choices?
What are our objectives when making lifestyle choices?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying don’t do these extreme things, but do them knowing what we are doing. If my goal is the satisfaction of completing one or more of these events then great. But, if my goal is to be able to live a long, full, healthy, active life in my 70s, 80s, or 90s, then maybe a different, more appropriate approach is necessary.
The message is, in every area of life, before making a choice, be sure of your objective in order to make the best possible choice, in every way.
